Health Insurance Assistance Inc.
ABOUT US
Health Insurance Assistance Inc. (HIA) is a nonprofit, 501(c)3, Florida Corporation. It has been determined to have a tax-exempt public charity status by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations to HIA are tax deductible for donors under IRC Section 170.
The function of Health Insurance Assistance Inc. (HIA) is to provide financial health insurance premium support for a person or family earning income of approximately 100-200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) that qualifies for insurance coverage with an insurance provider under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It has been determined under HHS rulings that qualified non-profits can act as third party payers for individuals' health insurance premiums under the ACA.
The Affordable Care Act allows for individuals who undergo a qualifying life event to apply within 60 days of this life changing event outside of the normal open enrollment period and also qualify for an income based subsidy. Loss of a job and health insurance qualifies as a life event. Even so many individuals that find themselves out of their job with the accompanying loss of employer based health insurance due to COVID-19 will not be able to afford even the subsidized health insurance premiums. Health Insurance Assistance Inc. can step in and pay their health insurance premium to make sure these people have health coverage in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
